* What are they? Will I need it?
Some MR exams require the use of contrast agents. Gadolinium, an intravenous paramagnetic contrast agent, increases the sensitivity of lesion detection, demonstrating metastatic lesions only several millimeters in size that are not seen on CT or unenhanced MRI, even with fast imaging sequences.

Magnevist, our contrast agent of preference, is administered intravenously and usually is eliminated in the urine within 24-48 hours.

Occasionally, less than 1 percent of our paients (1 in 100,000) experience side effects of nausea, flushing or headaches. This tends to pass within seconds.
